Now the company has turned its attentions onshore, to the Beetaloo Basin.

Chief Minister Michael Gunner met with Inpex executives in Tokyo on Monday night on his first visit to Japan since Labor lifted its fracking moratorium in April.

With the $54 billion Ichthys project now complete, Inpex chief executive Takayuki Ueba said the company was “very interested” in exploiting the Territory’s onshore gas reserves.

Inpex already has exploration rights in the Beetaloo.

  • Stage 2 rückt in den Fokus, in Erwartung der finalen Genehmigung. Wenn das klappt, dreht sich erwartungsgemäß ca. Juni 2019 erneut der drill bit im Beetaloo

Stage 2 – Explore & Appraise Additional Play Types The Stage 2 exploration and appraisal drilling program will evaluate the potential of the liquids rich gas fairways in both the Kyalla and Velkerri shales to determine the most commercially prospective play to be targeted during Stage 3. Field activities planned for 2019 will include the drilling of one vertical well and the drilling and hydraulic fracture stimulation of two horizontal wells. An early commitment to Stage 3 capital expenditure during 2019 was also agreed, enabling an efficient transition from Stage 2 to Stage 3, in the case that Origin and Falcon agree to proceed to Stage

    3. Stage 3 – Test the Best Stage 3 will focus on the most prospective play type identified in Stage 1 and 2 by drilling and hydraulic fracture stimulation of two horizontal wells. 2019 Updates 21 January 2019 – Rig Contract Signed On 21 January 2019 Falcon announced that Origin had signed a rig contract with Ensign Australia Pty Ltd. for Rig 963 for the 2019 Stage 2 Beetaloo drilling programme, with an option to extend the contract into 2020. Subject to relevant approvals, and implementation of the exploration recommendations of the Inquiry into Hydraulic Fracture Stimulation in the Northern Territory, the JV will evaluate the potential of the liquids-rich gas fairways in both the Kyalla and Velkerri plays. Exploration and appraisal activities include the drilling and hydraulic fracture stimulation of two horizontal wells. Together with the Velkerri B dry gas play discovered in 2016, this allows for the assessment of three plays, enabling the most commercially prospective play to be targeted for Stage 3 drilling during 2020. As of 21 January 2019 work had already commenced at some well sites, including water bore drilling and water monitoring, with drilling targeted to commence in June 2019.

Australian Government Announcement - Beetaloo Strategic Plan

17 December 2020 - Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSXV: FO, AIM: FOG) is pleased to note the announcement today by the Australian Government that it plans to provide up to A$50 million to accelerate exploration activity in the Beetaloo sub-basin. Falcon holds a 22.5% interest in 4.6 million gross acres in exploration permits (EP76, EP98 and EP117) covering the most prospective core area of the Beetaloo sub-basin.

The funding is designed to fast-track drilling by providing grants to cover 25% of eligible exploration costs, capped at A$7.5 million per well and three wells per exploration venture. The funding will be put towards exploration that occurs before June 2022.

The Northern Territory’s Geological Survey estimates that the sub-basin could hold more than 200,000 petajoules of gas (190 Tcf) and that, even if a very conservative 10% of that gas was recovered, it could still supply Australia’s domestic gas demand for more than 10 years.

A copy of the press release is available athttps://www.minister.industry.gov.au/ministers/pitt/media-releases/beetaloo-strategic-plan-will-unlock-gas-jobs-and-development .

Philip O’Quigley (CEO of Falcon) commented:

The announcement by the Australian Government highlights the strategic and economic importance of the Beetaloo sub-basin which it believes has the potential to be a world-class gas resource, transform the Northern Territory economy and generate 6,000 jobs by 2040.

We look forward to continue working with our partners, Origin, and the state and federal governments and other stakeholders towards the successful development of the sub-basin.”

Commencement of the 2021 Work Programme – Beetaloo Sub-Basin
    Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd.
    (“Falcon”)
Commencement of the 2021 Work Programme – Beetaloo Sub-Basin

22 June 2021 – Falcon Oil & Gas Ltd. (TSXV: FO, AIM: FOG) is pleased to announce the commencement of the 2021 work programme, starting with operations at Kyalla 117 N2-1H ST2 (“Kyalla 117”) in the Beetaloo Sub-Basin, Northern Territory, Australia with our joint venture partner, Origin Energy B2 Pty Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of Origin Energy Limited (“Origin”).
On-site operations at Kyalla 117 have begun, with rigging up now complete, and clean-up operations resumed. These operations, if successful, will result in an extended production test (“EPT”) being carried out to determine the expected longer-term performance of the well.
Further details on the 2021 work programme, including proposed activity at Velkerri 76 and Amungee NW 1H, are set out below.

    Kyalla 117
    Kyalla Shale Play Summary
Liquids rich gas play, which has only been identified in the joint venture acreage.
Material play fairway > 3,000 km2 with multi TCF potential.
Liquids rich play with two prospective stacked targets in the gas window, and one in the oil window.

    Results to date
As announced on 19 January 2021, Origin submitted a notification of discovery and an initial report of discovery to the Northern Territory Government.
Unassisted gas flow rates ranging between 0.4-0.6 MMscf/d were recorded over seventeen hours, which are preliminary indications of well performance, and an EPT is required to determine the longer-term performance of Kyalla 117.

    Velkerri Shale Play Summary
Largest play fairway in the Beetaloo with four prospective stacked targets.
Predominantly dry gas with OGIP > 500+ TCF.
Liquids rich gas fairways on basin flanks with multi TCF potential.
Multiple successful tests within the dry gas window (Amungee NW 1H, Tanumbrini1, Shenandoah 1A).
    2021 work programme includes:
Targeting the Velkerri play along the south-eastern flank of the Beetaloo Sub-Basin, which is predicted to be in a liquids rich gas window.
Drill a vertical pilot well to acquire core, run logs and perform diagnostic fracture injection test data across the Velkerri.

    Results to date
On 22 December 2016 Falcon announced that, following a 57-day EPT of the well, production averaged 1.10 MMscf/d.
On 15 February 2017 Falcon announced that Origin had submitted the Results of Evaluation of the Discovery and Preliminary Estimate of Petroleum in Place for the Amungee NW-1H Velkerri B Shale Gas Pool to the Northern Territory Government amounting to a gross contingent resource of 6.6 TCF, 1.46 TCF net to Falcon.

    2021 work programme includes:
An extended production test and production log to confirm zonal contribution, i.e. determine if all frack stages contributed to the initial EPT conducted in 2016.

Philip O’Quigley (CEO of Falcon) commented:
“The commencement of operations at Kyalla 117 is an exciting first step for the planned 2021 work programme which will cover three different plays in the Beetaloo providing key information that will help determine the future appraisal and development programme. We look forward to providing results as soon as they become available.”
