LONDON (Dow Jones)--World Gaming (WGP.LN) shares were down 51.5 pence or 81%
to 12p at 1115 GMT Monday as shares in all U.K.-based online gambling companies
fell following news that anti-gaming legislation, if signed into law by
President George W. Bush, would force them to exit the lucrative U.S. arena.
The internet gaming software provider said that if the act is made law, as
expected within the next month, the processing of payments between U.S.
customers and online gaming companies will be illegal.
All gambling companies were hit, including FTSE 100 constituent PartyGaming
PLC (PRTY.LN), down 58% or 62p to 45p. Leisure & Gaming PLc (LNG.LN) was down
26.5p or 68% to 12p, Fairground Gaming PLC (FGH.LN) was 18.5p or 40% lower at
27p and Empire Online PLC (EOL.LN) was down 19.25p or 28% to 47.75p.
ZOO DIGITAL GROUP (ZOO.LN) was up 44% or 0.38p to 1.25p after signing a
contract with Walt Disney Pictures and Television (DIS).
The research and developer of interactive DVD technology, publishing games and
entertainment products said it will license its Templated Authoring System for
the automated production of DVD-Video discs for Disney's new and existing film
titles.
Walt Disney has also renewed its licence to use ZOOtech's Menu Regionalization
Tool for a further year.
FORMJET (FMJ.LN) was up 41% or 1.1p to 3.87p after signing a partnership deal
with Tesco PLC (TSCO.LN).
The computer software distributor will provide a range of utility software
under the Tesco Software brand and manage the Tesco Software online facility,
providing technology and customer support, by designing, running and
maintaining the TescoSoftware.com website.
Tesco said it believes that it can become a significant player in the
computer software market.
RIDGE MINING (RDG.LN) was up 15.6% or 5p to 37p after saying it has
conditionally agreed to issue 16 million new ordinary shares.
The platinum metal explorer and developer will issue the shares at 45 pence
per share and grant warrants to subscribe for 10 million ordinary shares of
$0.05 each at 70p per ordinary share to a subsidiary of Zijin Mining Group
Company.
The move is subject to shareholder approval at an Extraordinary General
Meeting on October 30.
